Come Visit Our Online Comment Map!

Come visit the Lane County Transportation System Plan’s new online comment map and tell us what you think—and read what others have said—about transportation needs, deficiencies, and project ideas around the County.

The map will be open from September through November 2015, and we need YOUR help to identify all areas in the rural and urban fringe of the County that need transportation improvements. Your feedback will help us be ready to develop and prioritize projects to address those needs.

Last Day to Add Comment to Interactive Map is July 7

InteractiveCommentMapMonday, July 7, will be the final day to add comments to the Lane County TSP interactive comment map.

To-date, members of the community have added over 200 comments! These comments provide valuable information that will help inform  upcoming work on the Lane County TSP update.

The reason for closing the comment map at this time is to facilitate the project team’s efforts to address all of the feedback as part of upcoming work. Those who would like to provide comments after July 7 are welcome to continue to do so by using our comment form or by contacting the project team.

Summary of Winter and Spring 2014 Public Outreach

In early 2014, the project team met with various individuals and committees to gain an early understanding of transportation issues to address during the Transportation System Plan (TSP) update process:

Lane County Planning Commission BriefingPlanning Commission Briefing: The project team met with the Lane County Planning Commission to provide a project overview and discuss desired outcomes of the TSP update process.

Advisory Committee Meetings: The project team met with the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and Stakeholder Advisory Committee (SAC), formed to guide the TSP update process.  The TAC includes local and state agency representatives.  The SAC includes area residents, emergency service providers, local business representatives, and other interested parties.  The committees received a project overview, and reviewed draft goals and policies and applicable plans, policies and regulations.

Stakeholder Interviews: The project team met with a variety of stakeholders such as representatives of the bicycling community, business community, emergency service providers, Lane Community College, Lane Transit District, and rail providers, to provide a project overview and learn about specific stakeholder perspectives.

Information gathered from this public outreach will be incorporated into current and future deliverables, as appropriate.  Common themes expressed included improving safety for all travel modes; providing connections between cities and communities for all travel modes; proving bicycle facilities throughout the County; improving coordination between local jurisdictions; and addressing funding needs and challenges.  Frequent comments included:

  • Improve bicycle and pedestrian safety on roadways
  • Provide bicycle wayfinding signage and designated bicycle routes throughout county
  • Provide bicycle and transit connections between Eugene and coast
  • Improve multimodal infrastructure around transit stops and stations
  • Improve and provide for transitions between rural and urban roads
  • Improve connections between rail and freight facilities
  • Provide multimodal access to and between parks and recreation areas
  • Maintain roadways (e.g., pavement repair, debris removal)
  • Provide for bicyclists and pedestrians at railroad crossings
  • Provide bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly shoulders
  • Address bottleneck areas for both safety and congestion concerns
  • Identify and consider freight mobility needs
  • Consider storm and water runoff in discussions about performance and design standards
  • Identify new and stable funding sources
  • Support local and regional economic development needs
  • Incorporate Oregon Sustainable Transportation Initiative goals
  • Incorporate public health considerations
  • Minimize impacts on land owners and their economic well-being
  • Improve inter-jurisdictional coordination (e.g., design standards, funding)
